Creative Language Revival
Language is central to understanding and celebrating culture and identity. Creative revival of Aboriginal languages strengthens communities as well as language, culture and identity. When used in songs, stories and other creative arts practices, Aboriginal languages become accessible to children and the broader community, enriching all involved.
There are protocols of respect and permission-seeking needed in the use of Aboriginal languages in songs. The cultural protocols for the songs featured in the Song Cycle for the Biyadin Festival 2017 are identified in the lyric sheets.
We love to hear Aboriginal languages being spoken and sung once again.
So does the Country.
